Musings
Yes, I've just received my 'Red Death' book - excellent as always. I can't wait for the last two - they are expensive but it's a limited print run of only 500. Graeme H on 12:23 29th-Apr-08 GMT #979-47981 The Streetsweeper is very reminiscent of the Imposter story from 1971. Douglas Nicol on 12:23 29th-Apr-08 GMT #69f-47980 Well my copy of the newest Trigan Empire arrived today, so I will be reading that tonight. These books I'm afraid to admit are expensive but they really are a once in a lifetime chance to get them, plus they've been restored and you could easily spend a lot more money on a pile of tattered Look and Learns and get less. :) Mike W on 09:10 21st-Apr-08 GMT #849-47971 Interesting info from Wikipedia that conflicts with a few previous postings. Mike Butterworth (1924-86) is not related, connected or the same person as Michael Butterworth (b.1947)who wrote the Hawklords series & the Space 1999 novelisations. Scot Kenwood on 12:39 16th-Apr-08 GMT #9bb-47952 That is completely awesomely wonderful. Thank you so much for running the Street Sweeper. Douglas Nicol on 12:39 16th-Apr-08 GMT #9ea-47919 See Scott, this is why I'd like to see some of the non Don Lawrence stuff in, Oli Frey's artistry style is pretty interesting for example. I'm not saying all the stories are universally great, but there's bound to be some gems. Mike W on 09:49 9th-Apr-08 GMT #3d8-47889 Douglas - the website seems to follow rather than lead - you need to subscribe to the newsletter if you want advance notice of Trigan publications. Scot Kenwood on 09:49 9th-Apr-08 GMT [www.trigan.com/cgi-bin/triga.pl] #9bb-47882 'The Street Sweeper' aka 'Fortune And Consequences' is a Mike Butterworth/Oliver Frey story pulished in Look & Learn in Oct-Nov 1976. Being one of the later stories, ir depicts the Trigan Empire as a technologically very advanced civilisation. There's something about the story I always liked although I cannot pinpoint exactly what it is. See link for page scans. Douglas Nicol on 09:49 9th-Apr-08 GMT #03f-47879 It might be due any day but I haven't head a thing about it, even the website is pretty quiet. Mike W on 09:50 9th-Apr-08 GMT #9d7-47858 I think you're right. I don't recall the Street Sweeper - what's the plot? In recent weeks the daily pictures have not been shown in isolation which I feel has not matched the high quality of the earlier years. Additionally, in correspondece a few years ago, I was not the only contributor who felt that they'd prefer more than one picture a day in order to speed the stories along. Anyway, by the end of the year all 12 Trigan Empire volumes which include the 49 stories illustrated by Don Lawrence will have been published. The 10th. is due any day now. Scot Kenwood on 09:50 9th-Apr-08 GMT #9bb-47856 Looks like our daily 'free-fix' of Trigan adventure on-line has come to an end. I was hoping it get as far as 'The Street Sweeper', even if it did mean waiting until after the London Olympics. Douglas Nicol on 08:38 4th-Mar-08 GMT #77f-47626 Rights aside, it could still be interesting though. Mike W on 11:48 26th-Feb-08 GMT #b99-47625 Although the varying styles of artwork would be a big factor in the commercial success of producing some or all of the other Trigan tales, another would be getting the permission from all the other parties concerned - apart from Ron Embleton (1930 - 1988)most of the other artists & Mike Butterworth's successor(s)are still alive. Possibly the largest factor would be the inconsistencies in the final stories - they contained many gems such as returning to the Gallas moon story & also to the Zolt slaves but characters such as Ursa, Zorth & Kassar seemed to return from the dead! Douglas Nicol on 11:48 26th-Feb-08 GMT #20c-47624 I know Mo, I'd like to see some of the other stuff, Oli Frey had some interesting artwork, a very distinct style from Don's and I know the later stories aren't always highly thought of, but compared to some of the rubbish that's produced today.... James on 11:48 26th-Feb-08 GMT #36e-47620 I agree, Mo. I haven't anything to add about the Trigan Collection of 12 books but wondered if anyone remembered the New Zealand Trigan Fanclub which I'm sure lasted for some while - approx 10 newsletters - after Look & Learn ended. Mo on 11:48 26th-Feb-08 GMT #1a9-47616 It's great to see that this site's talk roo is still active - I thought it might have closed down,I'm looking forward to the last 3 books - does anyone know if any books/supplements are planned with the work of other writers than Butterworth or other artists than Don Lawrence? Mike W on 11:48 26th-Feb-08 GMT #4a1-47609 Good to hear from you, Douglas. For some reason, the last 3 messages - including one of yours, appear to have been sent at the same time on the same day .The other 2 were both from me! - Peric himself would be baffled. On the Don Lawrence official site, it gives the dates, contents & covers of the final 3 Trigan volumes - they are well worth waiting for. Douglas Nicol on 11:48 26th-Feb-08 GMT #7a4-47599 Thanks Mike, sorry for late reply but due to a duff computer my access to the internet has been erratic at best. Mike W on 13:47 30th-Jan-08 GMT #651-47432 I've had a reply yesterday. The next book would have been February but is now likely to be March or April. Mike W on 13:47 30th-Jan-08 GMT #6cd-47418 Douglas - only yesterday I sent an e-mail to the Don Lawrence Collection in Holland asking the same question! As yet, I have had no reply. However, Rob informed me about 2-3 months ago that all of the final 3 volumes would be issued this year & that the next book would feature 'the Red Death'. the penultimate book would be the very first Trigan stories (from 1965) & the final book would feature the very last Don Lawrence Trigan stories - although not, of course, the last ever Trigan tales. Hope this helps.
